“Until the lion learns to write, every story will glorify the hunter.” – Chinua Achebe
That line completely reframed how I think about visibility.
For too long, I saw stories as something tucked away in family gatherings or books. But in truth, stories decide who is seen, who is valued, and who is remembered.
And here’s the reality for many diagnostic professionals: while we’ve spent years learning, testing, and delivering results that matter, too often our stories remain untold. When that happens, others fill the gap, sometimes downplaying our role, sometimes forgetting us entirely.
Achebe’s reminder is sharp: if you don’t tell your story, you surrender control of your narrative. In our world, that means fewer opportunities, fewer seats at the table, and a slower pivot beyond the bench.
From Silence to Spotlight in Practice
This is exactly what we unpacked together at our Virtual Coffee Session 2 with the #BenchToBusinessFellows community.
We called it Benchwork to Brandwork, because staying silent keeps you in the shadows, but brandwork brings you into the spotlight.
We explored:
✅ How to show up online as a transitioning diagnostic professional
✅ Strategic ways to build a LinkedIn presence (without needing 10k followers)
✅ How to turn your personal story into powerful visibility content
✅ Why being seen isn’t vanity, it’s a pivot strategy
We also broke down the 20–60–20 content mix: authority, value, and relationship posts and saw how those simple moves can open doors, spark conversations, and even shift careers.
Fellows came ready with notebooks, questions, and courage. And together, we unpacked what it means to take ownership of our stories and move from being “behind the scenes” to being seen as thought leaders.
Visibility as Pivot Strategy
You see, in diagnostics, your pivot is not only about skills. It’s about visibility.
- Families that don’t tell their story leave generations in the dark.
- Communities that don’t define their story get defined by others.
- Professionals who stay silent risk being overlooked, no matter their competence.
Your visibility is your insurance policy. It’s your credibility card. It’s the lever that can take you from the bench to the boardroom, from a hidden contributor to a recognized leader.
That’s why I believe visibility is a pivot strategy.
Your Turn to Step Into the Spotlight
Silence leaves your story unfinished. But the moment you share your journey, your lessons, and your insights, you move from being invisible to being unforgettable.
So here’s this week’s challenge for every Fellow:
- Post one LinkedIn update using any of the content styles we explored (tag me if you’d like feedback).
- Optimize your profile using the LinkedIn Optimization Guide we shared.
- DM three new connections and reintroduce your pivot story.
Because the bench may have taught you skills. But the spotlight? That’s where your story takes its rightful place.
With love & Purpose,
Nancy.
